WHAT WE DO & WHY?

In order to provide long-term vector control and disease prevention, the West Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District maintains vigilant programs in surveillance of vector populations and the disease agents they transmit, vector breeding source prevention and reduction, and public education.

During routine inspection, biorational or chemical control products are used to eliminate vector breeding when necessary. The following definitions apply to the control products that the District utilizes:

Larvicides:
are products that kill pest insects in their immature stages. Larvicides are highly selective and have little or no effect on non-target organisms when used according to product labels.

Adulticides:
are products that kill pest insects in their mature stages. Adulticides are only used when all other methods have been tried and public health is still threatened.
