FLIES

District technicians routinely check breeding sources to ensure that property owners/operators of agricultural operations are complying with the parameters established by the University of California Cooperative Extension, Department of Health Services and local government ordinances regarding the production of flies. In particular, agricultural operations that produce high volumes of manure are of great concern as very large numbers of flies can occur.

Medically, flies are viable carriers of microorganisms, especially bacteria. Flies are known, or suspected, carriers of bacillary dysentery, salmonellosis, cholera, typhoid fever, and on rare occasions, myiasis.
